Koh Bon Moorings
8° 49.5′ N · 97° 47.8′ E · approximate
Orange national-park moorings on the southwest side of Koh Bon (Island #10), a lone rock about 15 nm northeast of Koh Similan with the Similans' manta cleaning station on its west ridge.
Practical
Approx: placed off the southwest side of the island near the OSM-mapped bay Ao Bon (8.82635, 97.79831), as the Southeast Asia Pilot describes; no buoy coordinates are published. Koh Bon is surrounded by very deep water, so anchoring is not possible. The pilot says the moorings give shelter from strong winds but the area is exposed. Etiquette: if you get a mooring, let another vessel tie to your stern. Dive boats crowd the site from early morning. It is a daytime stop: plan to overnight at Koh Similan or Koh Tachai, depending on the wind. Park fees and rules as for the Similans.
Best for
Daytime stop to dive the manta ridge
