Koh Maithon West Anchorage

7° 45.6′ N · 98° 28.5′ E

A very small bay on the west coast of private Koh Maithon, 8 nm from Chalong, with room for one or two boats overnight. Bottlenose dolphins are often seen here, and day-trip catamarans raft up in the bay by day.

Practical

10-12 m, sand and rock; best in the NE monsoon (SEAP). A marked track crosses the island to the east coast in about 15 minutes. Locals rate it for night fishing for red snapper with handlines and fresh bait. Phuket 101 reports that visitor access to the island itself has been suspended until further notice, so do not plan on going ashore.

Best for

A dolphin-watching overnight close to Chalong

Season

Nov-Apr (NE monsoon)
