Koh Lon North Shore Anchorage (Lo Ne Beach)

7° 47.9′ N · 98° 22.1′ E · approximate

A quiet lunch or overnight stop off Koh Lon's long north beach, a 1.5 km dinghy-and-longtail hop across Chalong Bay from the clearance pier. It gives a palm-lined beach and empty water a short way from the busy Chalong anchorage.

Practical

Position approximate: a point about 350 m off the middle of Lo Ne Beach on Koh Lon's north shore, derived from the OpenStreetMap beach and island outlines. No pilot guide gives a depth, bottom or anchoring position for Koh Lon, so come in slowly on the sounder. Southeast Asia Pilot puts the Chalong Bay anchorage itself in 3-7 m on mud. The island blocks south and southwest swell. The beach faces north across Chalong Bay, and Southeast Asia Pilot says the bay gets choppy in a strong NE monsoon. Hazards: SEAP warns of submerged rocks off Koh Lon's northwest tip, so give it a wide berth coming from the west or from Chalong. Its route in from the south also says to keep closer to Koh Lon than to the Phuket shore, because the bank and reef on the mainland side reach further out than the Admiralty and Thai charts show. Expect longtail traffic between Chalong Pier and the island all day. Ashore: a small fishing village on the east side, a few resorts and a small grocery with very basic supplies (Wikivoyage). Clear in, fuel and provision back at Chalong. No moorings or fees were found.
