Northeast Monsoon High Season (Nov-Apr)
7° 48.6′ N · 98° 21.6′ E · approximate
The dry NE monsoon is Phuket's main sailing season: settled weather, clear water and calm west-coast anchorages, from Kata and Nai Harn to Bang Tao and Nai Yang. It also brings crowds, and choppy, wet conditions in Chalong Bay when the NE breeze has fetch.
Practical
Representative point in Chalong Bay (approx). Best visibility Nov-Apr for snorkelling and diving (Phuket 101). Chalong is choppy with uncomfortable dinghy landings in strong NE wind (SEAP); Panwa Bali and Koh Taphao Yai give better NE shelter close by. Patong is packed at Christmas, New Year and Songkran (April). NW swell can make Amanpuri Bay rolly in Feb-Mar.
