Doctor's House Museum (Curieuse)

4° 17.4′ S · 55° 43.3′ E · approximate

The colonial residence built in 1873 by Dr William MacGregor, medical officer to the leper colony, standing beside the leprosarium ruins at Anse José; it has served as a national museum and education and information centre.

Practical

SPGA's Curieuse page states the house is currently closed for renovation — check with the rangers before walking over just for the museum; the building and grounds are still worth seeing from outside. Land at Anse José or walk the mangrove boardwalk from Baie Laraie. Coordinate approx: read off the SPGA/park signboard map of Curieuse (Wikimedia Commons CurieuseMap.jpg, 1 km scale bar) georeferenced to geotagged Commons photos at Anse Papaie and the mangrove boardwalk; expect +/-150 m.
