Curieuse turtle pond / old barrier wall
4° 17.2′ S · 55° 43.5′ E · approximate
The remains of an early-1900s seawall and causeway thrown across Baie Laraie to enclose a 40-acre hawksbill turtle pond — Seychelles' first aquaculture farm. The project failed, and the December 2004 tsunami carried away parts of the wall.
Practical
Visible from the rangers' station and from the Anse Badamier trail, which runs along the shore past the turtle-pond ruins. During nesting season small turtles are often seen near the causeway remains (SPGA). Keep dinghies clear of the submerged and broken sections of wall. Coordinate approx: read off the SPGA/park signboard map of Curieuse (Wikimedia Commons CurieuseMap.jpg, 1 km scale bar) georeferenced to geotagged Commons photos at Anse Papaie and the mangrove boardwalk; expect +/-150 m.
