Playa Los Metates (Isla Coronado white beach)

26° 7.1′ N · 111° 17.2′ W

The white-sand beach on Isla Coronados' west side, backed by dunes and the black lava slopes of the extinct volcano—'pristine turquoise beaches perfect for sunbathing' and the start of the island's trails.

Practical

Coordinate is OpenStreetMap's 'Los Metates' beach node. Land by dinghy from the south-west anchorage (see Isla Coronado Anchorage). From the beaches: El Volcán summit trail (3.9 km out and back, moderate-strenuous) and the easy Atracadero and Ensenada Blanca trail (2.8 km) through dunes, lava rock and a small mangrove. Day-tour pangas land here from mid-morning; the CCA's 2024 fleet found 'the long white beach provided ample distance to stretch one's legs'. No pets, no fires, pack out every scrap of trash; there are no facilities. CONANP protected-area fee applies: a Loreto Bay National Park day pass (bracelet) was MX$215 per person in 2025, and the annual Conservation Passport (MX$3,620 in 2025) covers every federal protected area; buy online at descubreanp.conanp.gob.mx or from the rangers at La Dársena in Loreto, and carry proof aboard.
