Cabeza de Gorilla Point Dive (Isla Coronado)

26° 8.1′ N · 111° 16.8′ W

Very large cracked boulders dropping to sand at 60-plus ft off Coronado's north-west point—and, by one cruiser's account, some of the best snorkeling in the Sea.

Practical

Coordinate is the dive position (approx. 26°08.1'N, 111°16.8'W) given by the yacht BlueJacket's 2012 log; OpenStreetMap's 'Cabeza de Gorilla' rock (26.13498, -111.27873) marks the point. The bottom rises to about 35 ft to the north-east and becomes a slope of medium boulders to the south-west. Cold upwellings: in May the water was in the 50s°F below 40 ft against mid-70s at the surface. Visibility varies a lot day to day. CONANP protected-area fee applies: a Loreto Bay National Park day pass (bracelet) was MX$215 per person in 2025, and the annual Conservation Passport (MX$3,620 in 2025) covers every federal protected area; buy online at descubreanp.conanp.gob.mx or from the rangers at La Dársena in Loreto, and carry proof aboard.
