Isla Coronado Anchorage (Loreto)

26° 6.6′ N · 111° 17.0′ W

A crescent of white beach and turquoise shallows on the south-west end of Isla Coronados, the dormant volcano six miles north-east of Loreto's waterfront—busy with tour pangas by day, yours after they leave.

Practical

Coordinate is the west-side anchored position (26°06.64'N, 111°17.04'W) logged by the yacht BlueJacket in 2012, off the white-sand beach, checked in-water against the OpenStreetMap coastline. BlueJacket calls this ellipse-shaped anchorage roomy, the most popular on the island and well protected from the south-west round through north; less-used spots lie round the hook on the south and east sides. Hotel pangas from Loreto ferry tourists all day and leave around 3:00 pm (SAIL). The beach is a lee shore in some winds—SAIL's skipper stayed only because the forecast was 6 knots; in a 2014 chubasco a boat sailing along the south side was driven onto the beach. Blue Pacific Yachting describes a more protected northern anchorage off Playa la Mona for north/north-west conditions. Sailing Totem anchored here repeatedly and watched sunrise behind the island. Sand; hook in 20-30 ft away from any reef. About 45-60 minutes under power from Puerto Escondido. CONANP protected-area fee applies: a Loreto Bay National Park day pass (bracelet) was MX$215 per person in 2025, and the annual Conservation Passport (MX$3,620 in 2025) covers every federal protected area; buy online at descubreanp.conanp.gob.mx or from the rangers at La Dársena in Loreto, and carry proof aboard.
