La Lobera Dive Site (Isla Coronado)

26° 6.2′ N · 111° 16.1′ W · approximate

A wall on Coronado's south-east side, draped in sea fans and black coral, with small caverns, grouper, moray eels and pargo—and an exit cove where sea lions gather.

Practical

Coordinate is approximate: off the south-east shore, about 250 m from the OpenStreetMap coastline near the sea lion haul-out; no surveyed position published. Wall to about 100 ft (California Diving News); Undercurrent's divers found boulders rising to about 50 ft with grunts, juvenile angelfish, tang and Pacific creolefish. The neighbouring Las Tijeretas site on the same side is a smaller 40-ft rock wall reaching about 75 ft where 'playful sea lions' usually join divers; on a windy day Undercurrent's group held a drop bar against strong current. Visibility 80-100 ft in calm conditions, 55-60 ft with wind. Stay clear of bull sea lions near the rookery: back off at the first warning signs (X-Ray Mag). CONANP protected-area fee applies: a Loreto Bay National Park day pass (bracelet) was MX$215 per person in 2025, and the annual Conservation Passport (MX$3,620 in 2025) covers every federal protected area; buy online at descubreanp.conanp.gob.mx or from the rangers at La Dársena in Loreto, and carry proof aboard.
