Isla Coronado Sea Lion Colony
26° 6.3′ N · 111° 16.3′ W · approximate
La Lobera, a haul-out of California sea lions on the volcanic rocks at Coronados' southern point, where curious juveniles come to snorkelers along a shallow volcanic ledge.
Practical
Coordinate is approximate: off the island's south-east point (Blue Pacific Yachting places the haul-out at the southern tip; position not surveyed), checked in-water against the OpenStreetMap coastline. Visibility 30-50 ft in calm conditions; triggerfish, parrotfish and sergeant majors on the ledge, and the drop-off comes quickly. Peak colony numbers in summer. Keep a respectful distance—do not touch or feed—and approach slowly by dinghy, never landing on the haul-out.
