Islas del Golfo de California Protected Area

24° 59.1′ N · 110° 37.3′ W · approximate

The federal flora-and-fauna protected area created in 1978 that covers some 900 islands and islets from La Paz to Bahía de los Ángeles—including Isla San Francisco, Isla San José, Isla Coyote and Las Ánimas.

Practical

Coordinate is the Isla San José centroid from OpenStreetMap, used as a representative point. Administered by CONANP; a pass is required to visit and the annual Conservation Passport gives access to all Mexican protected areas (Club Cruceros). Buy online at descubreanp.conanp.gob.mx (create an account, buy, download) before leaving La Paz or Loreto, or from park officials. Take all trash with you; do not collect shells, coral or fossils.

Best for

Making sure your park pass covers the islands north of La Paz
