Bahía Amortajada (Isla San José)

24° 53.2′ N · 110° 36.0′ W · approximate

The broad bay at the south end of Isla San José, backed by a mangrove lagoon you can explore by dinghy—an oasis of green, birds and turtles in an otherwise bone-dry desert.

Practical

Coordinate is approximate: off the south shore near the GeoNames 'Bahía Amortajada' point (24.89164, -110.60732), moved toward the beach and checked in-water against the OpenStreetMap coastline. Charter crews use it as a lunch or overnight stop on the way north from Isla San Francisco. The dinghy entrance to the lagoon is 'tucked in a corner of the beach' (Canadian Yachting). Open to the south; Isla San José gives shelter from the north. No services. Inside the Islas del Golfo de California flora-and-fauna protected area (CONANP): rangers can ask to see a park pass; the annual Conservation Passport (MX$3,620 in 2025) or a day bracelet covers it.
