Mobula Ray Aggregations
24° 55.2′ N · 110° 40.2′ W · approximate
Schools of Munk's devil rays (Mobula munkiana), the smallest of the devil rays at about 1.1 m across, gather in the thousands and leap clear of the water—cruisers see single rays somersaulting at sunset and 'fevers' of 50 gliding over the shallows.
Practical
Coordinate is approximate: Canal de San José, as a representative point—aggregations move around the southern and central Sea. Reproductive behaviour runs March-August, peaking in May (Wikipedia). Mobulas are also part of the summer snorkeling list around Loreto (Blue Pacific Yachting). Watch, don't chase; switch off the outboard when a school passes under the boat.
