Bahía Amortajada Mangrove Lagoon

24° 53.6′ N · 110° 35.9′ W · approximate

A maze of natural canals through tall flowering mangroves where crews have counted a dozen bird species—egrets, herons, white ibis, spoonbills—plus turtles, all a few hundred metres from cactus desert.

Practical

Coordinate is approximate: the lagoon behind the Amortajada beach, estimated from the GeoNames bay point; OpenStreetMap does not map the lagoon outline. Dinghy in at mid to high tide through the channel in the corner of the beach; go slowly, keep noise down, no fishing or collecting. On the far side of the mangroves a barren beach backs onto a cactus forest (SAIL).
