Isla San Francisco East Anchorage

24° 49.9′ N · 110° 33.8′ W · approximate

The second anchorage, on the island's east side, which SAIL's charter crew chose for two nights because it gives 'brilliant protection from the Coromuels'—the evening south-westerlies of the La Paz corridor.

Practical

Coordinate is approximate: off the east shore, placed from the OpenStreetMap coastline and checked in-water against the OpenStreetMap coastline. Use it when southerlies or the Coromuel make the south-west bay rolly; it is more open to the north and east, so move back to the main bay ahead of a norther. The Club Cruceros writer notes the east side of the island has excellent snorkeling and shallow-to-moderate dives. No services. Inside the Islas del Golfo de California flora-and-fauna protected area (CONANP): rangers can ask to see a park pass; the annual Conservation Passport (MX$3,620 in 2025) or a day bracelet covers it.

Best for

Coromuel nights and snorkeling the east shore

Season

Spring and summer Coromuel season; avoid in northers
