Isla San Esteban Southwest Sandspit Anchorage

28° 40.1′ N · 112° 36.1′ W · approximate

The anchorage on either side of the sandspit at San Esteban's southwest corner — the middle stop of the Midriff crossing and a chance to see the island's giant chuckwallas and endemic wildlife from the water.

Practical

Coordinate is approximate: south of the southwest sandspit, in the water off the OpenStreetMap coastline (spit tip about 28.667 N, 112.606 W). The Log: anchor off either side of the SW sandspit — pick the side away from the wind and swell, and move if the wind shifts. No depths or bottom type in the source — sound in. Strong currents run between San Esteban and Tiburón. Risco Colorado Bay on the south end of Tiburón (Seri territory, about 15 miles east) is the next leg. San Esteban is a protected island — landing requires a CONANP permit.
