St John's Harbour Anchorage
17° 7.3′ N · 61° 51.1′ W · approximate
The inner harbour of the capital, between the deep-water port and the waterfront, with free anchoring in mud within a cable of Heritage Quay, Redcliffe Quay and the city's shops and market.
Practical
Pin is placed on the inner-harbour shelf west of Heritage Quay and checked to be in water. Noonsite and ABYMA: good holding in mud for yachts drawing 9 ft or less; anchor on the 12 ft shelf, not in the dredged cruise-ship turning basin (if you are in more than 17 ft you are in the turning area). No anchoring fee. New dinghy dock at the root of the quay south of the cruise-ship dock; dinghies can also be left at Treasury Pier. Limited docking at Redcliffe Quay, best avoided when cruise ships are in. Fuel and water at Keeling Point (ABYMA). St John's has been closed to private yachts for clearance since spring 2021 (Noonsite, Sept 2022): clear in at Jolly Harbour, English Harbour or North Sound. A sand dredger with day-glow orange markings has run frequent trips offshore (Jan 2021): give it a wide berth.
