Deep Bay Anchorage
17° 7.6′ N · 61° 53.3′ W · approximate
Just west of St John's Harbour, Deep Bay is one of the most secure anchorages on the west coast, with a sandy beach, the Andes shipwreck in the mouth of the bay and Fort Barrington on the headland.
Practical
Pin is placed inside the bay east of the Andes wreck (OSM) and checked to be in water. Despite its name it is shallow: about 8 ft almost to the beach (AMG, ABYMA). Some weather generates a swell that makes it uncomfortable. Busy by day with resort water sports and tour catamarans. The Royalton all-inclusive resort at one end does not serve the public. Steep short walk up to Fort Barrington.
Best for
A secure west-coast overnight near St John's
Season
Year-round in normal trades; occasional swell
