Five Islands Harbour
17° 5.9′ N · 61° 53.6′ W · approximate
A big, secluded bay on the Caribbean coast named for the five rocky islets off its southern side, with five beaches, Maiden Island in the middle and the Hermitage Bay resort near the entrance.
Practical
Pin is placed in the outer bay between Hermitage Bay and Maiden Island (OSM) and checked to be in water. Approach outside the five islets (AMG: 'sail around the outside of the five islands'). Two anchorages near the entrance are favoured by larger yachts, but a ground swell occasionally makes them uncomfortable. Seaforth Beach at the head has only about 6 ft and is best reached by dinghy; the eastern bay is shoal and mosquito-prone. Hansons Beach is south of Seaforth. Maiden Island is private (Halls Farm). Jolly Harbour (supermarket, fuel, customs) is a short sail south.
Best for
A quiet west-coast overnight away from the marinas
Season
Normal trades; uncomfortable in ground swell (winter northerly swell)
