Spianada & Liston (Corfu Town)

39° 37.3′ N · 19° 55.5′ E

Greece's largest square: a park of bandstands and the Maitland Rotunda at the south end, a grass cricket ground at the north end, and on its west side the arcaded Liston, built by the French in 1807 and modelled on Paris's Rue de Rivoli. It is the social centre of Corfu and the stage for the town's Easter, saint's-day and cricket traditions.

Practical

Coordinate from OpenStreetMap (Spianada park). A few minutes' walk from Mandraki (across the fortress bridge) and from Garitsa Bay's dinghy landing. Café tables under the Liston arcades face the cricket pitch; the Palace of St Michael and St George, now housing the Museum of Asian Art, closes the north end.

Best for

Coffee under the arcades, people-watching, cricket
