Mathraki Harbour
39° 46.8′ N · 19° 31.1′ E
The small harbour of Mathraki, the reef-ringed Diapontia island closest to Corfu — a few tavernas that double as shops, wooded hills and footpaths in the north, and sunsets from Cape Sakki.
Practical
Coordinate from mySea (Plakes harbour; 1.5–2.5 m, stern-to; leave space at the end of the mole for the ferry). The island is surrounded by reefs, awash stones and rocks, especially to the south and east where shoals connect almost continuously with Corfu: approach from the north-east (SailingIssues; mySea says shoals extend SE of the harbour). The inner basin is protected from all directions but often silted below 2 m and too narrow for wide catamarans; the outer basin takes swell, even in southerlies — use the outer quay below Force 5 and mind the ferry wash; mediocre holding in dead weed, set both anchors (SailingIssues, 2026 photos). In light air, anchor in 5 m between the harbour entrance and the awash stone to the SE (SailingIssues). 4 nm from Cape Arilas on Corfu (Wikipedia).
Best for
Quiet overnight for shallow-draft boats in settled weather
Season
Settled weather; inner basin shallow
