Achilleion Palace

39° 33.8′ N · 19° 54.2′ E

The neoclassical palace Empress Elisabeth ('Sisi') of Austria built at Gastouri in 1890, dedicated to Achilles and filled with statues of Greek gods; later bought by Kaiser Wilhelm II. The gardens look down over the east coast and the Kaiser's own landing jetty.

Practical

Coordinate from OpenStreetMap. Greeka (2025–26) reports the palace building temporarily closed for restoration while the gardens and outdoor spaces remain open — check before going. Museum managed by the Hellenic Tourism Development Company (Wikipedia). The ruined 'Kaiser's Bridge' pier on the coast below (OSM 39.56344, 19.91057) is where the Kaiser embarked (Greeka). Taxi from Benitses Marina, about 2 km south.
