Agios Gordios Day Anchorage

39° 32.8′ N · 19° 50.7′ E · approximate

A long sandy bay on the west coast below Sinarades, with the great Ortholithi rock rising from the sea — a fair-weather lunch stop and swim between Paleokastritsa and the south.

Practical

Coordinate approx: about 400 m off the middle of Agios Gordios beach (OSM beach polygon), checked to be in the water against the OSM coastline. The seabed is shallow and the beach coarse sand and gravel (Greeka), so anchor in sand well off the swimming area and watch for jet-ski and banana-boat traffic. A rusty wreck lies at one end of the beach (Greeka). Open to the west and south: like all west-coast coves it becomes the wrong side of the island in a southerly, and the prevailing afternoon NW breeze brings swell — day stop only, move round to the east coast for the night (George Yachts).

Best for

Calm-day lunch and swim on the west coast

Season

Settled weather only; untenable in S–W winds
