Giannoula K Wreck (Plimmyri)

35° 55.2′ N · 27° 51.4′ E · approximate

A 110-metre Dutch-built cargo ship that sank in bad weather in Plimmyri bay in 1981. Still mostly intact at a maximum of 22 m, it is Rhodes' signature wreck dive.

Practical

Position approx: derived as 0.45 nm due south of the Plimmyri pier, where Sailing Issues says an isolated-danger buoy marks the wreck; use the buoy. Waterhoppers dives it every Sunday, meeting at the car park by the bay at 10 am; a shallower qualifying dive comes first. Life: Mediterranean triggerfish, jacks, moray eels, bream, octopus. Do not anchor on or near the wreck.
