Monolithos Castle

36° 7.5′ N · 27° 43.6′ E

A Knights' castle of 1476 perched on a 236-metre rock pinnacle above the south-west coast, with a white chapel of St Panteleimon inside and sunset views over the open sea.

Practical

Greeka: about 70 km from Rhodes town; climb a narrow stepped path. The walls are mostly ruined but there are old cisterns. Sunset is the classic time. Go by car from Kamiros Skala (no nearby harbour).
