ZMR de la Baie de Faanui (Bora Bora)

16° 28.9′ S · 151° 45.2′ W

One of only two places in Bora Bora where a yacht under 20 m may still drop its own anchor: a tiny five-boat zone on the north shore of Faanui Bay, the deep harbor where the US Navy based its WWII fuel depot.

Practical

Zone FA in arrêté 2442 CM: four points at 16°28.899'S 151°45.165'W, 16°28.948'S 151°45.190'W, 16°28.949'S 151°45.238'W and 16°28.898'S 151°45.268'W. Strictly limited to 5 boats and 36 hours. Coordinate is the polygon centroid. It is a narrow strip along the north shore; the bay itself is deep (the DPAM annex chart shows mid-bay soundings in the 20s of metres), and a 2025 cruiser report describes one of the two remaining anchorages as 'over 20 meters deep'. Arrive early and check your swing room. Book the night (4pm–9am) on escales.gov.pf or with DPAM. The Faanui-Yacht point for 20–90 m yachts is in the bay mouth (16°28.802'S 151°45.415'W). Declare arrival and departure to the zone manager (arrêté art. 7).
