Marae Fare Opu
16° 28.8′ S · 151° 45.2′ W
A coastal marae (traditional Polynesian sacred stone platform) on the Faanui shore, one of the group of temple sites around Faanui Bay, the old power center of one of Bora Bora's two rival clans.
Practical
Coordinate from OSM (historic=archaeological_site). French Wikipedia: Bora Bora's history was shaped by rivalry between the Faanui clan around marae Farerua and the Nunue–Anau families around marae Vaiotaha, once one of the most important marae in Polynesia. Other mapped marae nearby: Marotetini at Fare Piti point near the Yacht Club, Taianapa, Farerua (north Faanui), and Aehau Tai at Haamaire. Marae are sacred: don't climb on the stones.
