Magasin by the Church (Kauehi)

15° 49.4′ S · 145° 6.7′ W · approximate

Tearavero's oldest general store, next to the church and the wharf. It is the closest stop for a cruiser landing a dinghy.

Practical

Location approximate: Jacaranda (April 2019) says 'the first and the oldest is close to the church/pier'. The point is the warehouse building just south-west of the church in OpenStreetMap, between the church and the wharf; ask locally which door is the shop. Hours: in 2011 Yolo wrote that 'the posted hours on the store don't mean a thing, it's open when it is open'. On a Sunday in Nov 2018 Moon Rebel found the whole village shut, so shop on a weekday. Stock (2011, 2019): canned and boxed goods, frozen meat, lots of junk food, onions, garlic and sometimes potatoes; never fruit. Prices are high even for French Polynesia. Stocks are best just after the supply ship, which came twice a month on Wednesdays in 2019 (see Supply Ship Day). Bring cash (XPF).
