Kauehi Supply Ship Day (Tearavero)
15° 49.5′ S · 145° 6.7′ W
When the inter-island cargo schooner anchors off Tearavero, the whole village comes to the wharf as the barge shuttles in fuel drums, groceries and frozen goods. It is the best day to buy and the worst day to find dinghy space.
Practical
Coordinate is the main wharf (pier) in OpenStreetMap, just west of the church. 2019 schedule (Jacaranda): Manavea Nui (spelt Mareva Nui in the 2019 government sheet) twice a month on Wednesdays, Stella Mavis and Cobia once a month each. The government sheet lists Mareva Nui, SXMS 4 and Cobia 3, with 33 calls made in 2017. In 2011 the ship came on Fridays (Yolo). Check current schedules with the shipping companies in Papeete. On ship day the barge uses the wharf for most of the day, so pull your dinghy onto the sand beach north of the wharf. The barge also throws a lot of wake through the southern village anchorage pocket. The magasins restock that afternoon and the next morning. The Aranui 5 passenger-freighter also calls; it anchors off the village and lands passengers and cargo by barge, and villagers greet it with music and leis (2022). Fresh baguettes came by plane on Wednesday mornings in 2019; be at Magasin Yip by 11 am.
