Kauehi Lodge (North Rim Pension)
15° 46.8′ S · 145° 8.8′ W
Kauehi's guesthouse on the north rim near the airstrip, a cluster of small bungalows and an over-water stilt hut. It is the only place on the atoll where a cruiser can arrange a cooked meal, by booking ahead.
Practical
Coordinate is the 'kauehi lodge' guest-house buildings in OpenStreetMap, on the lagoon shore about 2.3 km west of the airport terminal and right beside the Kauehi NW (Airport) Anchorage. Jacaranda (April 2019) wrote that Tiaihau (tel +689 58 25 49 in 2019) had built 'a half dozen or so tiny bungalows' for tourists at a pearl farm, about USD 35 a day, or USD 70 a day with three meals included, 'clearly a good choice as there are no restaurants on the island'. The same crew was told by locals to anchor 'by the airport near the Pension' in a wind shift. The sources don't say outright that Tiaihau's bungalows are this lodge, so confirm by phone or VHF 16. The 2019 government sheet counts one family guesthouse on Kauehi (3 units, 10 guests). Prices are from 2019: verify locally. Meals are for guests first, so ask a day ahead whether they will feed visiting yachties and what it costs. Pay in cash (XPF); there is no ATM on Kauehi. Dinghy straight to the beach from the NW anchorage.
