Saona Sea-Turtle Nesting
18° 9.3′ N · 68° 42.0′ W
Saona's beaches are the Dominican Republic's most important sea-turtle nesting site, one of the reasons the whole island sits inside Cotubanamá National Park.
Practical
Coordinates: Saona Island per Wikipedia. Wikipedia describes Saona as the DR's most important site for sea-turtle nesting and notes the beaches are threatened by climate change and coastal flooding; Spanish Wikipedia lists sea turtles among the island's protected wildlife. Keep off marked nests, keep lights low on deck when anchored close to beaches, and never land on nesting beaches at night. Check with the park rangers at Mano Juan for current nesting activity.
