Playa Canto de la Playa (Saona)

18° 7.3′ N · 68° 40.6′ W

A long, palm-backed white-sand beach on Saona's southern shore east of Mano Juan, backed by the Canto de la Playa lagoon: the kind of empty beach the DR's tour catamarans rarely reach.

Practical

Coordinates from GeoNames (Playa Canto de la Playa). Wikipedia notes the southern and western coasts have Saona's best open beaches. This is an exposed south-coast beach: visit by dinghy or as a lunch stop only in settled trades with no southerly swell, and watch for the Bajos del Caballo hazard further east (18°05.54N 68°39.66W, Virgintino guide). Park rules: take nothing, no anchoring on coral. Saona is the DR's most important sea-turtle nesting site, so keep off marked nests and don't land after dark.

Best for

A wild beach day on Saona's south coast
