Las Palmillas Anchorage (Saona channel)
18° 14.0′ N · 68° 46.0′ W · approximate
When the wind goes northeast, the anchorage at Las Palmillas on the mainland side of the Saona channel is better protected than Catuano; local boats anchor here in 7–10 ft over sand.
Practical
Position approx: the Virgintino guide's rounded waypoint (18°14N 68°46W); the shallow sandbar and the 'piscina natural' are close by, so sound in. Approach by going west, then turning north and east into the anchorage, giving the sand bar a wide berth. Playa Palmillas is a popular picnic spot for local yacht owners, and tour catamarans crowd the area from late morning. National-park rules: no anchoring on coral, take nothing.
