La Bañera Mangrove Lagoon (Saona)
18° 11.7′ N · 68° 46.3′ W · approximate
A mangrove 'lake' at Saona's northwest corner called La Bañera (the bathtub), worth a slow dinghy or kayak exploration from the Catuano anchorage.
Practical
Position approx: NW corner of Saona east of Punta Catuán (GeoNames 18.2, -68.76667); the Virgintino guide places La Bañera in the NW corner but gives no position, so feel your way in by dinghy. The guide suggests setting aside a full day to explore the Paso Catuano channel, Cayo Catalinita and this lagoon by dinghy. Shallow: raise the outboard and go slow. National park: no fishing or collecting.
Best for
A calm mangrove paddle from the Catuano anchorage
