Río Diablo / Nargana Anchorage

9° 26.7′ N · 78° 34.9′ W

The twin, bridge-linked villages of Narganá and Corazón de Jesús, which long ago set aside traditional Guna dress and ways: the closest thing to a town in the western San Blas, with shops, a clinic, an airstrip and the mouth of the Río Diablo.

Practical

Position 09°26.67'N 078°34.94'W (Noonsite). SY Balvenie (2012) anchored at 09°26.646'N 078°34.975'W in 6.5 m mud, entering between Corazón de Jesús and the Usdup airstrip (straightforward). East and West anchorages: West has more shelter but sits under the village generator, which runs day and night; in north winds traders crowd the town dock. Fast canoes and pangas speed through the anchorage. Do not anchor over the buoyed water pipeline that runs from the mainland to the water tower on the east side of Corazón de Jesús. Anchoring permit $10 for 30 days on the 'Seis Pueblos' receipt, sometimes charged around Christmas at Corazón de Jesús (2018). Not an official port of entry, though cruisers have reported clearing here (Noonsite 2020). Health clinic on Nargana.
