Monte Cristi National Park & El Morro

19° 46.6′ N · 71° 42.1′ W

A 550 km² park of lagoons, mangroves, beaches and the 777-ft (237 m) flat-topped El Morro mesa, which looks out over the Siete Hermanos cays. It is a dry, empty landscape at the DR's northwest tip.

Practical

Coordinates from Wikipedia. Very dry, with no marked paths, so carry water and go early. The Virgintino guide describes gunkholing 3 miles of mangrove canal by dinghy from the sport-fishing club to the beach at the foot of El Morro.

Best for

A wild hike and beach from Monte Cristi Bay
