Cayo Arenas (Cayo Paraíso)

19° 53.0′ N · 71° 18.1′ W · approximate

A sliver of white sand on the reef west of Punta Rucia that day-boats visit for crystal-clear water and reef snorkeling. It looks more like the Bahamas than the DR.

Practical

Position approx: the Virgintino guide gives a waypoint off Ensenada (19°53.00N 71°13.10W) and says the cay is 'just a bit over 5 nm west'; this point is that waypoint moved about 5 nm west and is NOT a surveyed position, so navigate by eye in good light. Watch for coral heads on entry and exit. Day anchorage among the tour boats. Reef fish here can carry ciguatera.

Best for

A Bahamas-style day stop on the DR north coast
