Ensenada & Punta Rucia Anchorage

19° 51.6′ N · 71° 12.7′ W

A tiny reef-sheltered harbor at the remote fishing village of Punta Rucia, the jumping-off point for the Bahamas-like sand cay of Cayo Arenas.

Practical

Anchorage position from the Virgintino DR guide (~2015). Enter keeping the boulders to port and the coral heads (awash) to starboard; anchor in the sandy patch inside, good in prevailing winds. A second small-boat town anchorage lies about 1 nm south (19°50.60N 71°12.90W). Show the local Coast Guard your paperwork. Ciguatera warning: be cautious eating large reef fish such as snappers.

Best for

Snorkeling and a remote village stop west of Luperón
