Luperón Fuel & Water (jerry can and fuel barge)

19° 53.9′ N · 70° 57.1′ W · approximate

There is no conventional fuel dock in Luperón: diesel and water come by jerry can, by delivery from the harbor service boats, or from a small fuel barge in the harbor.

Practical

Position approx: in the harbor near the main anchorage. The Virgintino DR guide (~2015) says water is available at the dock and fuel can be bought from a small fuel barge, which also sells water. Most cruisers hand their jerry cans to Handy Andy or Papo (VHF 68) for same-day delivery; a 2016 Noonsite comment priced 8 cans at US$135 (verify locally). The guide notes fuel in the DR runs about 30% above US prices. Noonsite advises against making water in the bay (silt, mud and reported diesel discharges); buy purified water in 5-gallon garrafones (guide: about US$1 plus a US$3 bottle deposit, ~2015, verify locally).
