Luperón Clearance (Armada, Customs, Immigration)
19° 53.8′ N · 70° 57.4′ W · approximate
Luperón is an official DR port of entry where the Navy (Armada/Marina de Guerra), Customs, Immigration, Agriculture and Port Authority officials process arriving yachts, usually around the town dock.
Practical
Position approx: the town pier off Avenida Juan Pablo Duarte as mapped on OpenStreetMap. Hoist the Q flag on arrival. Noonsite (updated March 2024): officials increasingly do not come out to boats, especially near quitting time, so expect to go ashore; there is no one-stop payment counter or card facility, so carry US cash; ATMs are unreliable with some cards. Fees quoted by Noonsite (2024): US$10 one-off bay entry; harbor fees after 7 days US$15/month (<35 ft) or US$20/month (>35 ft). The Virgintino guide (~2015) lists a US$15 visa per person and US$73 boat clearance good for 3 months plus a possible ~US$10 agriculture inspection: verify locally. Luperón officials have a long history of 'inventive' fees: ask for a receipt for every payment and check with the cruiser net first. You will need a despacho (Navy departure permit) to leave.
