Gales Point Manatee & Southern Lagoon

17° 11.0′ N · 88° 20.0′ W

A Creole village on a narrow peninsula in the brackish Southern Lagoon, which is a manatee reserve, inside the 14-square-mile Gales Point Wildlife Sanctuary; Manatee Lodge at the end of the point runs manatee-watching trips.

Practical

Coordinates: Wikipedia infobox. The lagoon connects to the sea through the Manatee Bar River (Wikipedia). OpenStreetMap maps the Gales Point Wildlife Sanctuary. No published depths for the river bar were found - treat it as a dinghy or local-boat trip, not a yacht entry, and go slowly in the lagoon to protect manatees.
