Boca de Yuma Anchorage

18° 18.8′ N · 68° 33.3′ W

A river-mouth fishing town under a bluff with an old lighthouse, a few miles west of Cotubanamá National Park. It is a good anchorage in N/NE winds, with wild river scenery to explore by dinghy.

Practical

Waypoint from the Virgintino DR guide (~2015). Enter in about 17 ft. An overhead power cable at about 25 ft blocks most sailboats from going upriver. The small lagoon inside is tight for boats over 40 ft and has no protection from SE through SW; alternatively anchor outside the river entrance to the west (excellent in NE winds). The comandante will visit to check your despacho. Leave the dinghy among the fishing boats (the slip is slippery and rocky). No supermarket or fuel dock; colmados sell produce and water.

Best for

A north-wind shelter on the east coast and a dinghy river trip

Season

N–NE winds; exposed SE–SW
