Jumentos reef snorkelling
22° 18.8′ N · 75° 46.0′ W · approximate
Gin-clear water over reefs and coral heads the length of the chain, with turtles, barracuda, blue tangs, lobster and grouper, and hardly another snorkeller in sight.
Practical
Coordinate approx: pinned at Double Breasted Cay, which noforeignland singles out for great snorkelling. Other good spots in these sources: the bight sides at Flamingo Cay, the Buenavista wall (a 2011 charter did a 45-minute drift), the Raccoon–Nairn reef, coral heads in Coco Bay and the outer reef at Between the Raggeds. Snorkel at slack water where current runs between cays; wear a skin against fire coral; see the bull-shark entry. Fishermen have been seen using bleach on coral heads (2023): report it, and do not buy lobster from anyone doing it.
