Flamingo Cay Two Palms Anchorage

22° 53.0′ N · 75° 52.2′ W

The classic Flamingo Cay anchorage off a white beach once marked by two palms (now one), with a dinghy-in sea cave just to the south and trails across the island.

Practical

ActiveCaptain 'Flamingo Cay': approach from the NW following Explorer Chart waypoints. About 6 ft at low water close to the beach; good sand out to roughly 12-15 ft, rock and rubble beyond (MV Privateer). Calm with good NE protection and strong holding (noforeignland 4.1), but swell can work round onto the beam at night and a neighbouring spot has deep coral heads and poor holding (Ajaya, 2017). Often crowded; arrive early. A spot between Two Palms and the north bay in about 15 ft had good deep sand; the narrow sand band just south of Two Palms (5-7 ft) dragged boats in rubble. SHARKS: a 2023 crew had two close encounters with aggressive sharks north and south of here; buddy up and carry a pole spear or stick to fend them off. Same crew saw fishermen using bleach to drive lobster from coral (illegal and destructive). Beach landing only.
