Cape Santa Maria North Anchorage

23° 40.2′ N · 75° 20.4′ W

A small, quiet bight tucked just inside Cape Santa Maria, with sand beach and rock outcrops and usually no other boats. Cruisers use it to stage before rounding the north tip or crossing to Rum Cay, Conception or Cat Island.

Practical

ActiveCaptain: approach from the west using the Explorer chartbook and tuck inside the protected area; anchor in about 10 ft over sand (one 6 ft 8 in draft boat reported 10 ft). Good in E to SE winds, but reviewers repeatedly describe swell wrapping round the cape and a rolly night even in moderate easterlies; open to the west and north. Batelco data works and Cape Santa Maria Resort WiFi reaches St Peters Point. Beach landings can be wet in surf. The resort is a wet dinghy ride round the point.

Best for

Staging anchorage before rounding the north end in easterlies

Season

Nov–May in settled E–SE winds; untenable in W or N swell
