Calabash Bay North Anchorage (Hoosie Harbour)

23° 39.6′ N · 75° 20.3′ W

The north end of Calabash Bay, off the mouth of Hoosie Harbour, where a sand-flat creek leads by dinghy into the mangroves and to the Sunset Restaurant. It sees less surge than the middle of the bay but is harder to get a good bite.

Practical

ActiveCaptain: less surge here, but holding is patchier; follow charts and watch for coral heads. Deeper-draft boats (6 ft) report anchoring about half a mile offshore in good sand. Rolly when the wind is north of east and wide open to any westerly component. Shore access is the beach, or by dinghy through Hoosie Harbour (channel marked by locals with small floats; go above half tide) to a concrete pier and ramp. BTC and Aliv data (reported 10 Mbps down in 2025); resort WiFi is password protected; laundromat about 8 miles away. The beach just inside Hoosie Harbour is good for dogs (the resort beach does not allow dogs to swim).

Best for

Dinghy access to the Sunset Restaurant and Columbus Monument

Season

Nov–May in E–SE winds; rolly in NE, untenable in W
