Alligator Point Anchorage
24° 31.6′ N · 75° 36.2′ W
A long, beautiful sweep of beach south of Bennett's Harbour, good for north and north-east winds, backed by private houses and the Pigeon Cay resort.
Practical
Anchor in 10-11 ft of sand with excellent holding; it is deeper (13-15 ft) close to the bluffs to the south. Protected from roughly NW through ESE, but swell reflects around the curve of the island and any southerly makes it rough; then move round the point to Bennett's Harbour. The resort ashore has repeatedly been unwelcoming to cruisers (2011-2023), including asking boats to move, so anchor away from it and keep below the high-water line when walking the beach. A very limited general store is about 1/2 mile south (land at the south end of the beach), and a hardware and grocery store is about 1/3 mile north of the beach with the cell tower (2015).
Best for
A north-wind anchorage and a long beach walk
Season
Good in N–NE; poor with any S
