Bennett's Harbour Public Dock (port of entry)
24° 33.8′ N · 75° 38.4′ W · approximate
The long concrete government dock at Bennett's Harbour is a listed Customs port of entry. In a blow, cruisers also tie up here when the weekly mailboat is not due.
Practical
Coordinate is the GeoNames Bennett's Harbour settlement point; the dock is at the creek mouth beside the anchorage. Bahamas Customs lists Bennett's Harbour Public Dock as a Cat Island port of entry; arrange officers in advance. Cruisers report about 4.5 ft at dead low tide alongside and in the creek as far as the dock area (2017). The tidal current reverses quickly, so use good lines and plenty of fenders (2024). The mailboat calls on Thursdays (2024), so move off before then. Land the dinghy at the boat ramp or the wooden stairs on the back side of the dock; a stern anchor helps because of the creek current. Trash disposal is at the dock.
