Great Crown Cave (Dumfries)

24° 36.0′ N · 75° 38.8′ W · approximate

A dry limestone cave inland from Dumfries with stalactites, stalagmites, columns and rimstone, reached by a road walk and a trail through mangrove roots.

Practical

Coordinate is the Dumfries settlement point (GeoNames); the cave is about 1.5 miles inland. 2014 directions: from the dinghy landing walk north past Gossip Sports Bar, turn right at the church sign (about 1/4 mile), take the right fork after about 1/2 mile, cross two hills, then follow the obvious trail on the left through mangrove forest for about 1/4 mile to an entrance about 8 ft deep with a rope. Bring several lights, a compass and non-destructive trail markers, and wear long pants and knee pads. In 2015 another crew could not find it; locals said the trails were overgrown and the old guide had died. Ask in the settlement for a guide.
